for windows live messenger you cant, m$ feels that ie7 is too good, even though its still crap

with firefox open, click the tools tab at the top and choose options. on the general tab, toward the bottom there is a place to put a check to make it the default browser.

if you make firefox the default browser for the system then there should be no problem.
firefox opens as browser for anything on my comp
