I've been living in Italy 8 years now, and speak very good Italian.....at times Italians think I'm a native Italian. I know too many Italian words to write them down here.....but here are some: soldi, vestiti, casa, scarpe, pantaloni, bella, carina, alto, basso, colori, sole, montagna, fiume, pesca, banana, mela, uva, cibo, frutta, verdure, libri, biblioteca, libreria, farmacia, mercato, stazione, treno, buona sera, buon giorno, ciao, salve, etc. etc.

Hi! I work in a care home for people who are elderly and frail. Right now we have a resident who is Italian (female) and I have to look after her every day. She speaks very little English and I speak very little Italian. HOWEVER, we seem to be able to communicate without words. I once tried to teach myself Italian but only got as far as 'Peter is buying his uncle a new overcoat'! So I will get my Italian dictionary out again. Barry.
