If you plan on visiting NYC I would just get a hotel room in NYC. The hassle of renting a car and driving in NYC traffic is horrendous unless your familar with the city.

I don't know of any hotels outside the city since we always stayed with family when we visited NY. I do know that Rye, Scarsdale, Eastchester, Bronxville are all pleasant towns to stay in.

If you need to be in the White Plains area, you may want to consider Elmsford (along Tarrytown Road). There is a Hampton Inn and a Marriott there that isn't as expensive as going into the city of White Plains (such as the Crowne Plaza).

Flushing--in Queesn. It's the last stop of 7 Train. There are many hotels you can choose, all surrounding the subway area.
