Theres a very interesting story in Islam about this.

When God decided to create Adam, He ordered His angels to go to earth and get a handful of dirt from all the corners of the world.

When the angels tried, the Earth, refused to give in, saying it does not want to be apart of a creature that would wreck havoc on it.

So the angels returned to God in dismay, God then asked the angel of death, to do the same task. The angel of death, knew no mercy or compassion, and took the different colored dirt from all parts of the world anyway.

*But he didnt take ALL the dirt*

God formed Adam from dirt, as a potter would clay, and He breathed the breath of life in Adam's nostrils.
God removed one of Adam's ribs and made Eve.
