I'm not familiar with American law, but my limited experience is it comes down to whether the death is suspicious or unexpected, as in happened in the Nicole case. If it is, then the police have to be notified, a report has to be made to the police, and a cause of death has to be determined. So the body has to be examined by a pathologist. I think it is once the pathologist releases an interim report and the the police are happy with the situation that the body can be made available for the funeral.

cause of death only needs to be kknown if its suspected foul play. Apparantly here it is suspected. I would bet that they already know. I am not sure why its not made public. I am also not sure that its anyones business. Vickie was a strange girl i admit but man i wish people would leave her alone.
