Many nuns have become saints. Many nuns are happy. If that is one's vocation, it means that is the Will of God for them. Then it will be worth it. Being a nun is also like getting married. If you teach children then it is also like having children. Perhaps you will live in a community so you still have a family. I guess if a nun is faithful to the end and she fulfills God's will it is worth it.

That is hard to say. My mother's family was Jewish and she and her 7 brothers and sisters ended up in a Catholic Orphanage. My mother married at 15 to escape the very very abusive treatment she received from the nuns and the rest of her brothers and sisters ran away from the orphanage to live with her. Except her sister Sarah who became Sister Theresa dePaul at St, Joseph's Infirmary in Kentucky. Sarah wasted all of her Young life as a nun and then in her late 30's discovered the entire thing was a lie. She left the convent and was able to lead a productive life. She would never discuss her experiences as she felt that would not be fair to the nuns and the church. She said that anyone's relationship with god is personal and what may be right for one is completely wrong for another. So, that tells us that if you are thinking of becoming a nun, only your god has that answer for you. Best of luck and I hope this helps in some way.

Depends on how dedicated to your faith you are and how willing you are to truly devote your entire life as a living pray to God. To give up luxuries to serve the needs of others.

There are also different types of nuns. There are those that remain part of the world, teach, nurse, heal etc. They work with people and normally do charity work.

Then there are others that completly cut themselves off from the world and devote their lives to prayer. Carmelites would be a good example of this. You only see your family once a year - and only talk to the outside world on a very rare basis.

Deciding which one is right for you is a very important desicion.

Most nuns think it is worth it.

I have read many accounts of former nuns and have seen a movie based on the life of a nun, and I can say that 'no', I don't think that it's worth it. Nuns live such a demanding life that is full of many ridiculous rules and commands that wear the body out trying to follow. You lose your freedoms, and so many other things, that it seems as though your life is not your own. I think you should look into this in detail before you make this kind of decision, and study all aspects of what it means to live in a convent as a nun.

I am not of the Catholic faith, so I do not know a lot about nuns, but I can tell you that this will be a big, life changing decision. Women who become nuns feel God calling them to do so. It isn't something to be entered into lightly, and is a lifelong commitment to God. I would urge you to pray and spend some time listening to God to see if this is, indeed, where He wants to use you.

In Christ,

well, the pay isn't so good. lots of work, however. doing toilets and cooking and mopping and even lawn work. living in jungles and icey mountains. all sorts of challenges to keep you from thinking about it. that is, whether or not it is worth it. it is worth it if you stay so busy you don't think about it. you could work real hard as a stock broker or a plumber and make faar more money for you, your family or friends plus have a little to donate to the nuns. also, you might find that you like sex and hanging out at neat clubs. so it is tough to decide. i couldn't decide. never did. still waiting for god.

1 Cor. 7:34b-35 "An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord's affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband. 35I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord".

YES....it is very worth it! Hard work, yes....but so is marriage and parenting. Also very rewarding. It is the total offering of oneself to God through the ministry of the Church....very blessed indeed but NOT better than the married life....just an alternate path living the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience. Some groups of cloistered nuns (very little contact with the outside world) also take the vow of stability....meaning they will live in the one same house until death.

But make sure you choose an orthodox community....not one of today's right-wing do-whatever-you-want groups.

Being a nun is part of man made organization. Just like the Catholic priesthood.
In the Bible Jesus told the religious leaders do not forbid men to marry and to abstain from certain foods like the nations do. Jesus called them hypocrites. He also told them that they make the Holy Scriptures invalid by their traditions! Sound familiar? Easter,Christmas, the cross, the trinity are all rooted in paganism.
Not being critical, just sheading some light.

If one is called in that direction. But one can be just as spiritual as a nun and serve God in Marriage if that is there calling. It is a deep calling from God from within and if that is your calling then yes otherwise no. What ever position we are in in what ever religion we should be the best we can be. Mother Theresa said " If you are a Christian be a good Christian, if you are a Muslim be a good Muslim and if you are a Hindu be a good Hindu."

If it is your calling to be a nun, you would be 100% sure of it.
