this guy at work got mad at me for saying something as a joke but this girl said the same thing about the same time i did, but why did he just get mad at me

A hundred different things could have been running in his mind at the time. It's useless to question why a person acts the way they do at a given situation. If his opinion really matters to you, you'll have to ask him directly. This will also give you a chance to explain yourself and, if he has a point, to apologize or resolve any issues. That is, if you care.

he probably likes the other girl more, or you were closer, or you might have said things like that to him before and this was the final straw. or he could have been having a bad day.

Well, gee, "Precious"... maybe you didn't tell it right, maybe you blew the punch line. But what baffles me in this heavy affair is, why the hell does it matter? Don't you have anything else to focus your attention on?

maybe he didn't hear her because he was more tuned into you. are you and he close? maybe he doesn't care what she thinks and, he felt like you betrayed him. hard to tell not knowing what it was.
