this guy at work got mad at me for saying something as a joke but this girl said the same thing about the same time i did, but why did he just get mad at me

maybe cus... it was more hurtful coming from you than the other girl. maybe you mean more to him than what you really know. apologize.

He probably has some connection with the other girl, whether it be that he is interested in her- or just him understanding she said it as a joke.
