My husband doesnt want to drink. So if I have beer in the house or if I drink beer, he says it makes it hard for him, and then he ends up drinking too. He said I need to be supportive. He also said that I am an alcoholic, which is not true. I like to drink, but I dont have to drink. So he said that I could not go two weeks without a drink. I personally dont think this is fair....? Do I have to quit drinking in order for him to quit drinking? Am I being totally unsupportive? I will try to be supportive, and not drink as well. But when the weekend rolls around, I know I will want to drink. . . Anyone else in this situation, or am I alone?

pull the can switch. get an empty soda can and pour your beer in it. or throw him off and get some non alchoholic fruit drink or someting. he will probly call you out the 1st time he sees it so let him test it out and verify. from there your good to get non alchoholic ones the next time. who says he has to drink if you do? designated drivers are very responsible, useful, and hard to get a hold of. thank him for this and go have fun :-P

I was in this same situation a few years ago. My boyfriend at the time and my best friend were both getting into a lot of trouble from drinking so I kept teling them that they needed to quit but they both said they couldn't quit because I drank and it would make it hard for them to quit.

So I quit drinking to be supportive, I stopped drinking for 8 months. Both of them were drinking within two weeks so my not drinking didn't help them. But once I had sobered up I realized that neither one of them was worth the trouble and ditched them both.

Best thing I ever did......

Ultimately your husband will have to face many situations where other people are drinking, so he needs to rely on his own willpower.

However, it may be unfair to make it too easy for him to drink.

Also, if you are so worried about not drinking for a few weeks then I suggest that you actually might have the beginning of a problem yourself. There is no reason to have alcohol in the house unless you're planning a party.

I hate all these people that say you shouldnt drink. If you want to drink on the weekends drink its your time off... as far as your husband tell him if he doesnt want to drink than not to drink, he is old enough to not be tempted by peer pressure. its like if you were gonna jump off a bridge he doesnt have to follow you. does he? if you have beer at home and he goes for one say to him "are your sure you want that?" I think that would remind him about his desire not to drink... if he cant control himself there might be some underlying issues there.

It is not fair for him to expect you to quit drinking when he is the one who has the problem. No one can make you quit. You have to have the desire! But maybe you can find a comprimise, like drinking at a friends house for awhile. Either way, it's wrong for him to push you into quitting, when you're not ready. It will never work, and you'll just end up resenting him for it.

You need to be supportive of him and stop drinking.

He sounds really selfish. I think you deserve someone better. Come to my bar and we'll talk about it. While you're at the bar, he won't be so tempted, but you might be.

It's not your fault he drinks.
But I would say that if you can't lay off of it for 2 weeks you really need to examine that closely.
