Well, he knows he's in heaven so why the need to call him heavenly? As if there is another father who is not heavenly? Is this to distinguish between your dad and God? Just call him God! Do you call Mary heavenly Mary or Jesus heavenly Jesus??

He is our Father in the sense that He created our spirits. That's why he's our Heavenly Father. Same as you have a father here on earth, that helped create your body. It's out of respect for what He did for us, creating our spirit, that we call Him Father. Christ even called Him Father, since God created Him too. We all have the right to call Him our Father in Heaven, or Heavenly Father. We also call Him God.

I am not sure why that bothers you...maybe since we use the word "Father" that humanizes him and that bothers you? Who knows.
I refer to Him as my Heavenly Father because that is who He is, the Father of my spirit, the supreme creator, and yeah He lives in Heaven...I pray to my Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ. I think it is out of respect and as others have mentioned, to differentiate between He and His Son. Jesus and our Heavenly Father can both be referred to as God or Lord.
In a way, yes, I do believe the more good we do the more our Heavenly Fathe is pleased with us, and likewise doing unrighteous things makes him sad/displeased. I don't believe calling Him my Heavenly Father is going to "get me to heaven" or something...I do it out of respect and love.

Throughout the Old and New Testaments, God is referred to in a number of names. The Great I am, Jehovah, Elohim, God, the Father, etc etc etc. Mormons are not the only ones who have called God by other names.
Since he is the father of our spirits, in essence a "Heavenly Father," he is referred to in that name frequently in prayer.
Do you have only one name, or is there others that you are referred to?

I can't answer for everyone, but I do it to differentiate between Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, mostly to those who are not LDS. I have no problems with using "God", but when talking about God to non-members, sometimes gets confusing, as they might think you are talking about Jesus.

That is just our way of more clearly showing the difference between God and his son Jesus Christ. As both are Gods it just helps to define which one we are talking about. The Father or the Son.

I'm with Shorty. It's not out of niceties just reverance and respect. But at the same time we follow Jesus' example of how to pray, "Our Father, who art in heaven..."

We call him Heavenly Father as he is our creator just as our earthly father is the creator of our earthly bodies. We use God as well. It isn't about niceties, but respect.

He created us so he is our Father, and he lives in heaven. We call him our Lord, and God as well. Why do you care what we call him anyways? We are not the only religion who uses this term by the way.
