Homophobia is the unreasoning fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals.[1] It can also mean hatred, hostility, or disapproval of homosexual people, sexual behavior, or cultures, and is generally used to insinuate bigotry.[2] The term homophobic means "prejudiced against homosexual people,"[3] and a person who is homophobic is a homophobe.

It seems many Christians interpret words to suit only themselves just as they put their own exaggeratedly homophobic interpretation on selected scripture. This is what happens when Christians drop out from reality and believe things through blind faith alone.

So what, I have a disproval of a lot of things including Satanism and Hitlers teachings. Does that make me a Satanphobe and Hitlerophobe?

Lets just stick to the classic definition of a phobia that is fear and hatred.

The Q is, why dont listen to God in the ways hes told us to live? Id be more worried about what God thinks than what we think.

It may be easier for them to understand the difference if they thought of the root "phobic" in the sense of a hydrophobic molecule. Certainly anyone can understand that the hydrophobic molecule is incapable of fear.In this case it means that the chemical nature of the molecule is repelled by or repellent of water and water like compounds.
It seems that many, upon seeing the word homophobia, instantly relate it to an unnatural fear such as arachnophobia, the fear of spiders. This is not the case with homophobia.
Those of you that responded to this question saying that you are not afraid of homosexuals, please go back to the question and read the entire definition that was presented. He is not simply talking of fear but also repulsion, discrimination, hatred, etc.

Hello Scapegoat.. :)

sin

1. transgression of divine law: the sin of Adam.

2. any act regarded as such a transgression, esp. a willful or deliberate violation of some religious or moral principle.

3. any reprehensible or regrettable action, behavior, lapse, etc.; great fault or offense:

4. to commit a sinful act.

5. to offend against a principle, standard, etc.

==============================================

We Love the sinner yet hate the sin..

We, are all imperfect human beings, thus we must remind ourselves to "love the sinner, hate the sin..."

This is how it works...

We hate sin by refusing to take part in it...Sin is not to be excused or taken lightly...We love the sinner by being faithful in witnessing to them of the forgiveness that is available through Jesus Christ...

A true act of love is treating someone with respect and kindness, even though they know you do not approve of their lifestyle and/or choice...

It is not loving to allow a person to remain stuck in sin...

It is not hateful to tell a person they are in sin...

In fact, the exact opposites are true...

I do Love you.. :)

In Jesus Most Precious Name..
With Love..In Christ.. :)

I agree to an extent. I think your definition is too loose that anyone that isn't pro-gay could be labeled homophobic. However, I agree that Christianity is intrinsically homophobic. I also think it is a load of bullshit when Christians pretend they are not.

I can disprove of you - that does not mean I am afraid of you.

I don't necessarily approve of the homosexual lifestyle, I don't see it as natural. Doesn't make me homophobic. I am not in fear of it.

And no, I am not Christian.

Other people should be entitled to their opinions without having a label smashed on top of their heads. Why can't Christians say that they don't approve of a homosexual's lifestyle? Their religion is against it - it's in the bible.

This doesn't make them homophobic.

Most Christians I know do not wish harm on homosexuals. They do not hate them, fear them, or treat them discriminately or with violence. They just don't approve of their life style - but that doesn't mean that they hate the person.

I disprove of using illegal drugs. Does this mean I am in fear of them? No.

Because they believe the word to only mean fear and not hate. They also tend to do a poor job of saying their against gays without sounding hateful.

"Phobia" comes from the Greek word for fear. Fear is the one emotion humans are most likely to deny in themselves, despite it being patently obvious to the those around the sufferer.

They don't think of their perspective as hateful, and often think of themselves as offering a loving "solution" to what they see as a problem: The sexual orientation of LGBT people.

Homophobia connotes hatred or fear, and they think of themselves as motivated by righteousness.

They might not be homophobic, they might be prejudice. Now that isn't very Christian is it? I've heard that this prejudice is actually rephrased as, not hating the person with sin but, hating the sin in the person.....as if they have the right to judge others....
