It's just going to take time and a lot of patience. Have your dad come down to your pups level and let your dad give him treats to show the pup he is trustworthy and not going to hurt him. If your dad is standing up, that can be quite intimidating for your pup, especially if he has been abused. It shouldn't take too long before a bond is formed. Good luck!

its going to take time, and maybe some effort and treats on your dads behalf. I would suggest not trying to force it on the dog rather let him adjust. Have your dad use treats or maybe the dogs favorite toy adn lure him out, to try and play, it will take repeated attempts and lots of time.
More than likely the dog was abused and its kinda like a trauma for the dog. the dog associates the alpha male(former owner) as the abuser and even though its a new owner, the fear of the "top dog" remains...in this case your dad as he is head man of the house

Lots of bonding time with the dad. Make sure he does NOT get hit or abused again. Dad has to be extra loving to the pup. When I was a kid we had a dog that hated men and I suspect was abused by a man. Unfortunately our family was comprised of girls so poor Dog (yes, that was his name) had no real exposure to men and the few he did have exposure to were not animal lovers. You're lucky your pup is still young and can be re-programmed. With Dog he was too old to deal with, and we didn't know how to correct it. Poor little guy.

Let the dog stay with your dad for a couple days, just him and your dog... he will then get to know him better, and feel more comfortable around him. Thats what i did with my dog when she was a puppy, and she got used to my friend just fine. ^_^ Hope i helped you.

4 years ago, we got a 1 yr old female chihuahua. She is very sweet and loving........to me, but she is not the same with my husband. I am sure she was abused by some man before she came to live with us. She isn't as bad with him as she was before but she still will not go ro him and sit in his lap and let him pet her. She just cannot trust him 100% because of the past abuse.

Have your dad sit near your dog without touching everyday for awhile and just talking to him in a soft voice.

After a few days come bearing a treat.

Soon he will become relaxed around him

It takes time and patience. Your dad may remind him of somebody that abused him.

Treats and praise will go a long way.

Have your dad feed him. And give him yummy dog treats. He may have to throw them at first, but eventually the dog should learn to accept him.

It takes time. Have your dad feed him, animals always relate to the person that feeds them.
