Im trying to teach my dog to play fetch instead of just running in circles where i have to tag him. But whenever i throw a ball for him he either watches it pass by or runs the opposite direction. how can i teach him to go get it.

you need to find a dog trainer in your area to teach him basic commands and then teach him to fetch

Not all dogs like to play fetch. The retriever types like fetch and it comes natural to them (retrieve). Some like to herd and will prefer to run circles (play chase). If your dog is terrier type, try throwing the ball along the ground (like bowling, not a high toss). This mimics the movement of a prey, which triggers the instinct to go after it. And then some dogs are just couch potatoes.
