It actually depends on what languages you already know. If you know French or Spanish, it will be much easier to learn it, than if you didn't. It depends on the base of the language. Italian comes form Latin; it is Latin-based, and so is Spanish, French, English, and a lot of other languages. If a language comes from the same base, you will find that the languages are very similar to each other, and it will be easier to learn. Just like if you know Arabic, you will learn Persian much quicker, because they both have the same base. It also depends on your opinion of what's easy.

I wouldn't say any language is easy to learn. It doesn't seem like it would be especially difficult to learn Italian grammar, especially if you already know a related language. But in any language, you have to learn vocabulary and idiom, which takes a LOT of work.

it depends on your background...i speak spanish which is close to italian in vocabulary and grammar...still it is not as simple as it looks! i've been living in italy for two years now and even though i may give the impression that my italian is fluent as soon as the subject of conversation gets too specific i get into trouble...i am able to go with "intuition" many times when it comes to vocabulary but grammar is a bit more complicated...as a matter of fact people say it is easier for an italian to learn spanish than for a spanish speaker to learn italian...i guess if you only speak english you would find it much harder to learn that if you already speak a romance language...
