Why small dogs? Lots of dogs are fantastic around kids - as long as they have been socialised with them from a very young age. And why indoor dogs? All dogs have to have access to outside and be taken out for walks. It is good for kids to go out for walks with the dogs. You also need to make sure your children are ALWAYS dominant over your dog. Don't let the dog boss them around.

Bigger dogs are safer around little kids because their world is a little more than just feet and ankles. However, pugs and boston terriers are usually very safe around kids.

Remember that kids as young as three can be taught what the right and wrong ways are to touch and handle a dog. They do get overexcited around little dogs and try to pick them up and hug them too hard and the like. If you teach the children not to run at (or after) the dogs and to handle them with respect and gentleness, you should do okay with many kinds of small dogs. Poodles and poodle mixes don't shed and schnoodles (schnauzer/poodles) are also good with kids. They vary in size, though.

I know you would like to have a small dog, but you really need a dog that can handle being around kids. You didnt say how old your kids are, and will there be a yard at all for the dog to be in? I think Bassett hounds are great dogs for kids.. they also dont require alot of excerise but can handle kids. they are not very tall, and get up to about 45-55 lbs. think about it, but no matter what breed you get, remember try a rescue center or your local shelter. and GOOD LUCK TO YA.

Small dogs are not for young children because they are very fragile. I had a friend that had a Yorkie that fell off her bed and it killed the dog, and this was a normal bed so it was an average high off the floor, and not a bunk bed either, but I have seen some families have small dogs but everyone is really careful with the dog.

I actually have a 13 inch beagle- small lap canines about 23 lbs. and he's superb with young ones, he has tremendous power levels to play yet he also naps a lot that's fantastic on the figure! they're oftentimes mischevious yet in case you maximum superb the habit from the get bypass itll bypass away. they're rather wise too! they're very loving and uncomplicated to sociallize that's tremendous for canines parks and different young ones! i'd wait until eventually your infant is atleast a million a million/2 so as that she receives to have exciting with the puppy, little ones that are too youthful wont be able to play with the puppy yet between a million a million/2 and 2 they could be able to note of what a puppy is and play. Beagles also start up out so lovable and tiny (like a number of domestic dogs i guess) yet they're only little fur balls! i respect em! Papillons are tremendous too, I had 3 turning out to be up that still stay with my dad and mom!! Very acceptable dogs!

A beagle is not as small as some breeds but still small and they make great family dogs. If the children are preschoolers, I advise to wait until they are a little older before getting a dog.

It depends on how small your kids are. I have a poodle and she is around my brother and sister all the time and they are 8 to 12 some where between those ages.I do not recomend a chihuaha they are small and frail and are easily hurt.If you decide to get a poodle i recomend that you get a toy thay are a medium size and weight 7 to 12 pounds.

most small breeds can be around children. however i do not recommend chihuahuas because they can be extremely territorial. i have owned malteses and yorkshire terriers and they are both great family dogs that are kept indoors and do not have much hair if they are groomed short. however they both have very long hair if you show them. good luck!

there is a shitshoe, pickens, begel, weener dog. Well it all depends on how small and how big you want them there are lots of animals out there and you can not decide on how big or how small you want them because no matter how big or small you get them they are still going to do all the other things that the small dog or big dog do so no matter what you do you are not going to get away from it.
