Well, this may sound silly but as our children graduated we gave each of them a gift. "Oh The Places You Will Go" by Dr. Seuss. I promise you this book will tell them everything you cannot~

It is a continuation of a message that you should be giving your son for all time....for all of his life. Graduation Day is special, yes, but it is also bittersweet, for you as well as for him. He is moving on, moving out, moving up, and with his progress and growth at graduation you feel as though you are losing something, and maybe you even feel a sadness because a wonderful chapter in your life is closing.

But that's not the way it really is. Graduation, bittersweet as it may be, is not so much about the closing of one chapter as much as it is about the beginning of another chapter...another exciting chapter in his life and in your's. And the message you need to give him is the same one that I hope you have offered to him on each and every day of his life: "I love you and I'm so proud of you, and I will always try to be here to offer any support and guidance that I possibly can."

Good Luck Son we will be thinking of you.

That is it. Do not go over the top. He is not off to fight a war or risk his life.

For goodness sake, he is only graduating.

"I'm proud of you son" You can say that... or you can say- "You got a third? A third? Did you go to any lectures?" I'm hoping you'll be the proud parent though... say what comes naturally, that'll mean the most, surely.

I do not care what you do, as long as it is honest, and as long as you ALWAYS do your best, and are determined not to hurt anyone in the process, no one can ask for more. And I will love you, regardless, and big congrats!! Mom
