Edwin John Pratt was born February 4, 1882 at Western Bay, Newfoundland. Pratt lived in
a variety of small communities in Newfoundland, moving to follow his Methodist minister
father's postings. Pratt was ordained as a Methodist minister, but never served as a
minister. Instead, having also studied psychology at University of Toronto, he taught
both psychology and English at Victoria College, University of Toronto until 1953. He
began publishing poetry in 1914, but his first memorable collection was Newfoundland
Verse (1923). With his subsequent works, Pratt established himself as the foremost
Canadian poet of the early twentieth century.

(prolly clean that up a bit) Although Pratt wa sordained as a minister, he never served as one. With his education in psychology from University at Toronto, he taught psychology and english at Victoria College, University of Toronto until 1953. In 1914, he began publishing poetry; his first memorable collection was Newfoundland Verse, published in 1923. Pratt established himself as the foremost Canadian poet of the twentieth century with subsequent works. (that last line could also be cleaned up, but i think that'll help... if you need more variety, use a thesaurus.)
