We're bombarded with images of perpetually thin (gaunt!) women. we think, somehow, that our very identities are tied up in being skinny like fashion models.
It's a shame, really, since most of them have been airbrushed to pieces, and those that are actually that thin don't menstruate since their body fat is so unhealthy and low.
Society has convinced us we must be thin to be: pretty, popular, rich, loved, etc etc.
Truth is - if you lose weight, you are just a thinner version of yourself.

Losing weight won't solve all our problems, but eating healthier and going to the gym does solve some of them. It boosts your confidence and gives you more energy, which tends to make people happier.
The girls who are obsessed with losing that last 5 lbs by not eating are deluding themselves. It's far easier to blame your problems on your weight than deal with the real problems you might have.
Trying to live a healthier lifestyle produces results. Trying to fit into a size 0 because that's how you feel you're supposed to look just makes you more miserable.

The effects of obesity are far more than they actually seem to appear. Obesity increases the risk of heart diseases by more than 40%. Apart from this the extra weight could bring strain to the bones and also reduce natural resistance to diseases. Obesity is also responsible for allied diseases like gallstones, sleep anea, gout, diabetes, and many pulmonary disorders. Effects of obesity is increasing in a major way as the junk food is replacing nutritious diet and people are loosing time for quality exercise and have started leading a sedentary lifestyle.

decreasing body fat and making the body less susceptible to disease an injury may not solve and problems but it certainly isn't creating any. by decreasing illness and disease the quality of life is increased
you have only one life to live, why jeopardize that for something as trivial as food. there are so many pleasures in life that do not effect the health in a negative manner

I don't think that it will solve our problems necessarily, I just think that it will make us feel better, therefore allowing us to have a better outlook on life, etc. Self esteem has a lot to do with it- if we like how we look, we hope that others will too and that means that we just become a better person overall.
