Go to the vet. The ones from the pet shops are not as strong and need to be given to your dog more often and this works out to be more expense over the course of the year. This also applies to flee treatment.

I can tell you from lots of experience, pet shop worm/flea treatments aren't worth wasting money on - stick with the vet stuff (Drontal, Panacur, Milbemax, all good). Since it only needs to be done 3-monthly for medium risk dogs it won't break the bank either way so you might as well go with the good stuff.

Just because one person's pet has been lucky enough not to get worms, doesn't mean the pet shop junk has worked, just that it probably wouldn't have got worms anyway!

To the person who suggested Bob Martin - NOOOOOO! Whatever you choose, NOT that one. I don't know so much about their worming products, but their flea products are useless and have killed LOTS of cats - Bob Martin are definitely only in it for the money! I've written letters to them, and they're being investigated by Watchdog (UK consumer show)

Get the meds from the vet. I was told by a really good friend/veterinarian that the shop bought ones don't do the job properly. You need to get your dog weighed and the right dosage to get him/her wormed well. Otherwise, you could just be throwing away money with the shop ones and your dog will still have worms.

Hope this helps.

I go to Manor pharmacy for the drontal wormer. They prescribe animal drugs too. Its £1.77 per tablet and its the same stuff from the vets. Each tablet is a 10kg dose so depending on the weight of your dog (get it weighed at the vets) you will know how many tablets to give it. You can order it online at vet-medic.com (prices are lower if you buy in bulk)

Hi, you can use the ones from the shop but as I found out they dont do them for all the types of worms the dog can get, So eve though you do worm your dog you mght not do if properly. I know the ones no a days in the shops are as good as the vet brands. Look for the Bob Martin make as these are usually good. You can always ask the shop assistant which one is the best as they should know.
If you dog doesnt normally go to the vets. Unless you have loads of money I know its you dog and you love him and want to do the best for him. But if you go and you havent been for ages, then you will have to start all his boosters again and worm treatment and a flea treatment even though he might not need it all. But it will cost you a fourtune.

You dog does need worming though no matter what as uf you dont its not fair on your dog. So take a trip to the pet store and see what they have there and you will be fine.

You can get the wormier from-the pet shop on the condition that they are all wormier which include the hydatid tapeworm as this is highly dangerous to humans. Popantel from a vet is a good all wormer, it covers the lot. It is 1 tablet per 10 kg of dog. $5.50 each. Once the dog is over 3 months he or she should be wormed every 3 months for the rest of his or her life. Hope this helps.

You have to be very careful with store bought dosages, too much is harmful and too little is uneffective. I recommend going to the vet so you get the proper amount and for the right kinds of worms.

The vet for definate. The ones in shops such as Dr Martins etc aren't strong enough and a total waste of money. The best one is Drontal and are only about £4 each.

Dogs under 2 and pregnant females are best wormed by the vet, over 2 the stuff from the pet shop is fine as long as you do for both round and tapeworm (uk.) As they get older they develop some immunity to roundworm, but not to tapeworm. Just ring your vet to check if you're unsure.
