I can't add much more than the two messages above this, except that the fundamentalist Christian groups really don't like the Masons because Masons practice religious tolerance and never dictate religious belief's to their members.
All religions are respected equally; a mans right to worship as he pleases is respected; and a belief in God is the only requirement for membership.
For some reason, tolerance and respect really upsets the fundamentalists.

Hi, I am a member of American Co-Masonry, Freemasonry for women and men. I thought I would prefice this reply with that disclaimer.
Freemasony is not a religion. Instead it is a beautiful system of morality, veiled in allegory, and illustrated by symbols. We make no claim on what happens after a person dies. That is the sphere of religion. Instead, we teach how to live in peace and harmony with each other. And that "each other" includes people from different faiths, different races, different gender and gender choices.
Asking if Freemasons believe and accept Jesus Christ is like asking does the Chamber of Commerce believe in Jesus. We have members who are Christian. We have members who are Buddhists, Moslems, Jains, Hindu, Latter Day Saints, Wiccan, and Taoists. You see? Nothing within the Lodge is ever meant to be in discord with a person's religious beliefs.
Freemasonry follows wisdom found in both the Old Testament and New. One of our greatest allegories is building King Solomon's Temple. And like that Holy edifice, we want to let nothing unclean or impure inside ourselves. Hard and almost impossible job.

I am a Freemason. Freemasonry is not a religion, Matters of religion are not even allowed to be discussed at a lodge. I have friends that i have know for yrs but couldn't tell you if they are Muslims, Jewish, christian or if they worship a tree god.
F.Y.I... some other answers refereed to drinking. Drinking Alcohol is not allowed at a lodge either. Even if a non-mason rent the hall room from us for a party no booze is allowed at the party

Mason's aren't Christian perse. The believe in God - a Divine Creator. They don't discriminate against those who do not believe in Jesus. But from what I know, belief in Jesus is not mandatory for being a mason.

We all have different beliefs and so do Christians. Each person's belief is based on experiences through life and spiritual experience. I figured I should note that first and foremost.
I have studied all the major religions as a Freemason (my personal study) and I do believe the written word. Now there are many other things I believe and don't but that's my personal business that only matters to myself and God.

The Freemasons is a fraternity. As a group, in general, they accept the existence of a higher power but they do not have any religious affiliation.
I'm totally nominating this question to the drinking game. At least once a day it shows up.

The Masons are not a religion, they are a secret society. The Roman Catholic Church forbids membership in secret societies so we do not join. The Masons do believe in God as part of the beliefs so I think most of their members are Protestants, but I am not exactly certain as they really are a secret society and I won't ever be one. Peace be with you

Don't fall for it. Masons are Boy Scouts who never grew up. There is no great secret they share, just a lot of drink.
