I think pits should be used as police dogs. They are super smart, loyal and obedient. The cops wouldn't even have to sick the dog on someone if they had a pit, the culprit would listen to their commands just seing the dog. I hate all of the negative press that pits get. I love my Red-nose pit. Wud up, Bubba!

I have a Pit and a Lahsa Apso (the mop dogs) and my Pit is nicer to my 3 year old than the little one! The Pit has never bit anyone and the little one bit her (softly) twice!

I absolutely LOVE pits! If with the right people (like you) they can be WONDERFUL dogs! I have been around abused/neglected pits and have been bitten by them out of fear and have been around loved pits who licked me to death. Even though I have been bit, I know it wasnt their fault. It was the bad owners they have had.

Once I am out of college and get my own house, I plan on getting a pit!

have fun with your beautiful pit! :]

EDIT: LOL! I just read your details and I have a Pekingnese and I WOULD NOT trust him around kids at all!

Whenever I have company over I have to tell them to not touch the dog (or I'll lock him in the bedroom with a baby gate). And I always joke around saying 'you're better off petting a pitbull' // everyone knows i love pits and some people i know still dont, and they ALWAYS get freaked and wont touch my Peke LOL

But yes! I love pits. I wish people would do more research on the breed and not be so quick to judge.

I see good Pits all the time. I think the outlook with people is getting a little better. I'm a dog training Instructor and I always do a little speech on Pits. I also hand out a paper with different websites that show positive things on the breed. I get more and more open minded people all the time. Yesterday, I actually had a pit puppy starting in one of my classes. I could tell this other lady was a little leary, but after my speech and stuff, by the end of class, she was petting the puppy and talking to the owner. I love it when that happens. I love pits, but really, I love all dog breeds. They all have something cool about them.

i agree with you completely. pits are great dogs. they are very loyal to those they love. it's sad to see them get such a bad rap just because ignorant people go and train their pits to be bad. you look at the news everyday. tell me one time you have ever seen a pit bull be a hero. they may say a family was rescued by their dog. it sucks to see them put into dangerous situations, like dog fights. i bet the only reason half the people who do own pits have them is to fight them. they think the dog makes them look all tough and manly. but their just punks who are too scared to fight their own battles. so they send the helpless animals to do it for them.

in my life i have owned 2 pits. the first one i had to give away because someone told my landlord that if the dog attacked someone, then he would be sued. what kind of stuff is that? and the second one is my pride and joy. no matter how old she gets, she will always be my puppy. she's loyal, very protective. i'm in college now. and every time i go home, she jumps all over me because she's happy to see me. that is the image i feel the public should see, a loving house pet, not a "vicious killer"

I luv pits! and some actually ARE used as police dogs!

Right now I am participating in a thread to get Pit Bull myths tested on the show Mythbusters. It would be great for the public to see all these myths busted, and really see the true colors of what is known as a pit bull.

i love pits too but because they can be trained to be fierce fighters most end up in illegal fight clubs and the rest are used for bringing down wild boars for hunters. sad but true. i used to work in a University for Doctor's in the vivarium which is where the research animals are kept. i was in charge of the dogs and cats. although the pits were extremely scarred up from the boar's tusks, they were very sweet and love-able dogs. that is their natural nature.

I love them!! They're great dogs, and it's a shame that so many people are ruining them and their reputation. I just did a speech in my class against the banning of pit bulls, and I respect them even more.

If I live in an apartment by myself in a bad area, a pit bull would be the perfect size and attitude for me.

If I had small children that may accidental poke the dog in the eye are pulls its tail, I would not have them.

Depends on the situation.

I love pits, the media and some bad owners give them a bad name. i had a red nose named Gypsy and she was awesome also had a tan and white one named Chayly and she was badass to and neither one of them ever would bite a child or even snap at them if anything they was protective of them.

I love them, and thanks to people who know nothing about this breed they are now banned. Ban the bad owner by all means, cause without training the dog will be a problem, there are many breeds that need training, and more bad owners who don't think before they purchase an animal like that.
