I am getting so confused about what branch if Chrisitanity I belong to. I was not baptised, I never attended chruch, but I believe in God, and that Jesus was the son of God, and all that stuff, but I heard that would not make me a Caholic because I was not baptised. My parents were Catholic, but I don't belive I am. I am not an athiest, because I believe in God. People just tell me Christianity, but they won't tell me what sect of Christianity.

~ likkhd... I was much like you... raised a Christian Scientist till I was a teen... then non-denominational in military... then converted to Catholic when I married... stayed that way for 30 years... not really knowing God or having a relationship with him... then was Born Again in 1997 on Good Friday / Easter Sunday.

~ I now DO believe in Jesus Christ... I know that He died for my sins... that he was raised up on the 3rd day... that He was seen by over 500 witnesses... that He ascended to heaven... that He now sits at the right hand of His Father, God.

Note: You DO NOT have to be baptized to be a Christian... remember the thief on the cross beside Jesus... if ever there was a sinner... it was the theif... the Lord promised him life in heaven with him upon his death... so too for us... we... as a minimum... must believe on Him.

~ If you re-dedicate yourself right now... down on your knees... confess your sins... repent of your sins... ask Jesus to rule and reign in your heart till you die, you will be Born Again... the Holy Spirit will dwell within you... The Holy Spirit will guide your steps... he will be the 'gentleman's voice' that tells you NOT to take that path, as it is evil... He will tell you quietly of the love he has for you, if you seek him out.

~ Find a good Christian Bible Teaching church in your area... a Calvary Chapel church... a Baptist church... etc.
Get involved in Bible Studies... perhaps a Home Bible study in your area... or perhaps your school.
Read the Bible daily... pray first for the Lord to reveal to you what He wants you to understand about what you read today. Pray for your family to have a closer relationship with Jesus Christ, like you are now going to experience.

~ God Blessings.

Being part of a sect means buying into certain rules. So unless you pick a sect, nobody will be able to tell what particular rules you go by.

As far as belonging to certain branches, you're probably gonna need to be baptized in some way, if you want to be a "member."

But you can be Christian and not go to any church at all. Or be baptized.

It's a little odd that your parents didn't baptize you as a Catholic, though. I mean, some kids don't do First Communion and all that, but most babies get a sprinkle for protection.

But if you want to convert, you can do it as an adult.

What sect are we told to belong to? The definition of a Christian is someone who believes that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God. That He came to the earth, lived, suffered and died. That His blood is what God requires for payment for our sins because, He is perfect and we are not, That He is our Lord and Savior and He now lives.

Never are any denominations mentioned in God's Word, the Bible. Only faith, trust, repentance (to turn away from sin) and following Jesus are taught.

Just be a Christian. Form a personal relationship with Him by reading about how He wants you to live your life and how much he loves you . God bless.

You know...there are many denominations under "Christianity." My parents are Baptist and I am too. But do not be confused about what denomination you are. Just believe in every word in the Bible. Base your faith on the Bible. I suggest you get baptized because it is a symbol of Christ coming into your life. It doesn't make you Catholic either. Just believe in the Bible. Don't be convinced by all the other teachings of different religions. The truth will become clear in the end.

You are Christian. You're a protestant because you're not Catholic. I suggest trying the Episcopal Church, you may feel comfortable there because the service structure is similar to catholicism, however there aren't as many rules (meaning that epis. priests can marry, divorce is allowed, etc.)

You don't have to belong to a certain sect. Just try different churches and see where you feel comfortable. Or read up on the doctrines of different denominations, and see which one you agree the most with.

Why is this a problem? If you believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God, that he came to earth to die for our sins, that He did indeed die and rose again on the third day, then you are a follower of Christ , a Christian. Religion and Faith are two totally different things. Many people have "religion" with no faith...I would say find a good Christian church that feels like "home" to you and talk to God about it.

What you describe is either a non-demoninational Christian or a more liberal form of Christianity. I think that the most important thing is for you to believe in what's right for you and not worry too much what it's called.

On the other hand, if you're looking for a group of people who share your similiar views that's cool too. Try the belief-o-matic at www.beliefnet.com to show generally which denominations fit your spiritual, social and cultural views.

Bear in mind too, that churches are all different and what goes on inside its walls isn't necessarily related to the idealology attached to the name on the sign on the front lawn.

Good luck finding your path!

Peace,
Zimmi

You are a Christian but you need to be baptised. Why not look into it? You say your parents were Catholic. What faith do they follow? How about grandparents?

Do you believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose again on the 3rd day?
Do you believe that it is only through Him that we have forgiveness of sins?
Do you know how important repentence is when you believe? Do you desire to follow the Lord? Do you know Jesus IS God? (John 1:1, Rev 1:7)
Do you understand salvation and the gospel?
I mean really understand WHY we need Christ's forgiveness? Because we have all sinned against God (Romans 3:23) and it is only THROUGH Jesus we can be saved, when we confes our sins and believe with our heart as Romans says and John 14:6 (He is the ONLY way to heaven)
Do you know that you must be born again to inherit the kingdom? (John 3:3) That means to be saved, washed clean by believing with your heart and confessing your sins to God--Romans 10:10
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Do you believe the Bible to be God's Holy word?
And last but not least, DO you know it is only by HIS grace we are saved? Nothing we can do can get us to heaven--but only believing in Him and repenting of sin--putting our trust in Him and following Him....He sets us free out of his wonderful grace! (Ephesians 2:8)
Baptism is important though, God calls us to do this after we are saved- to be baptized (Read Acts)

Uh, unless youve taken a confession of faith at a certain church, you are non-denominational.

Dont think of the faith you have in terms of human organization and affiliation. Think of your faith in Jesus as your religion because in the end, he is the head of Gods church which isnt made of bricks, but made of true believers!
