There's a page here
http://www.hennapage.com/
with a lot of very comprehensive information on henna tattoos - how they're done, traditions, etc.
I've used henna many times with no ill effects - I always do patterns on my hands whenever I'm going to a wedding - and it's considered safe. It's a sort of sludgy green paste which makes reddish-brown marks on the skin, that last a week or two before fading away.
However, there's stuff called 'black henna', which sometimes contains harmful chemicals that have been associated with skin allergies, scarring and other problems. I would therefore avoid 'black henna' and stick with the ordinary stuff.
Hope this helps!

Yeah! They're completely safe! Henna is made from a mix of Indian herbs. completely natural. :) But if you're going to go to florida for a really short time, I wouldn't really recommend it because it does take a while dry. Also, make sure none gets on your nails or it will stay there until they grow out.
