Drinking and driving is NOT illegal in the UK. It is illegal to drive over the legal alcohol limit and as this changes dependent upon size, weight etc and no one is clear on what this limit is for them. People who go to the pub drink 5 pints and then try to drive home are a disgrace and deserve criticism. But many people are caught after being slightly over the limit (maybe drinking 2 small glasses of wine instead of 1 large glass) or simply driving the next day while they thought they were sober. It is also illegal to do more than 70 on a motorway (and speeding kills far more people each year than drink drivers) and yet I bet the same people who are so critical on here have done this at some point. I agree with the ban for doing it, but the criminal record is when otherwise hard working, solid, taxpaying citizens get ruined as people and then cannot find employment even when they get their license back and I have seen people become suicidal from it.

The law is not tough enough on motorists......... have you not seen a MASSIVE INCREASE IN FLOWERS, FOR THE DEAD, TAPED TO LAMP POSTS, TREES, RAILINGS ! Wake up young drivers, you're a bloody menace, and shouldn't have a licence until you're 30, or better still......... never !

Well it depends, not all first time drink drivers (especially those slightly over the limit) get a criminal record anyway.
But at the end of the day, like with speeding there is no excuse and there is no defence. You're either over the limit, or under it.
It's a lot easier to simply avoid the temptation, and either don't drink, or don't drive.
Speeding may kill more people, but that's only because more people do it. Drunken people are only likely to kill themselves by hitting a lamp post.

I see your point, however the line has to be drawn somewhere.
I've had 2 glasses of wine tonight and wouldn't dream of driving now for fear of being over the limit.
I work a six or seven day shift pattern and I don't drink at all when I'm on my shift set unless it's for a special occasion and then I would only have 1 pint to ensure that I'm well below the limit.
The obvious easy way to avoid the problem in the first place is to not drink and drive at all.

it's a v good question...
different people have different levels of tolerance plus there is there local conditions.
I could be a complete lightweight or a hardened 50 pint a day drinker- each will be able to handle to handle alcohol differently.
Also there is the age old question of if you are driving on the M4 during rush hour traffic in heavy fog the speed limit is still "technically" 70 but should be, say, 30 but at 0400 on a Sunday morning with perect visibility why shouldn't the speed limit be 140 mph? (For example. These are examples of Government arguements that have been going about for the last decade or so)

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://bitly.im/aNHHX

Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.

You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

well you know the effect now all you have to do is avoid the cause.

i agree with you regardiing the D&D rules, but i suppose i took teh easy way out, i dont drink at all if im getting behind a wheel..

and as for the speeding... i was a badass biker in my early years... and yes ive broken the speed limit almost everywhere i went rediculously so on occasions... so i bought me a volvo estate... a diesel volvo at that!

i need my car... its got nothing to do with work, im in a wheelchair... so i have a vested interest in keeping myself on the road... maybe if some of your friends made teh same considerations, they'd still have a licence.

and im in the chair because some drunken fool thought he could drive... he rammed me sideways...

Did you know its also illegal for an employer to find out an employee has a criminal record?
Unless you work in a few secure jobs like the post office or banking!
Besides! Motoring offenses are Civil not Criminal!

Yes they are fair and if a conviction for driving over the prescibed limit ruins your live better that than ruining other peoples by killing their loved ones whilst driving drunk or impaired.

if there was a ban on alchohol wilst driving altogether.it would be the end of the entrapment to get you into the pub.they will always want to get you in knowing that some drinkers will fall for it.like car phones, no law against it till we all got used to using them, then they make them illegal knowing many will fall for it, and continue to use them.if you get caught using a phone wilst driving you can get done for 60 quid. but you have done nothing wrong, no accident , no near misses.its called crime prevention, its a con.it gives a copper the chance to collect fines wipe out your licence with points, causing you to loose your job. but, you havent done anything wrong, you only might have. thats not law, its a dirty rotten trick.
