I dethawed chicken breasts just out on the counter (in the container) yesterday that were frozen. I decided not to use them last night, so I put them in the fridge since they were dethawed. Do you think they are still good to cook with?

You should never thaw chicken out on the counter since it promotes an environment for bacterial growth. this is extremely illegal to do in restaurants. the outside of the chicken gets all nice and warm and the bacteria multiply while the inside is still frozen. you're putting yourself at a huge risk for salmonella. just a warning. the only way you should defrost anything is in the fridge, that's for quality purposes, anyway. the other way you can defrost is in the sink, under cold running water. constant running water. it is safe to do it in the microwave, but you come out with a crappy product, so I don't do it.

if they were still partially frozen or cold when u put them back then yes they should be fine if they were room temperature when u put them back then it is questionable. smell them, if they have a spoiled odor( if they dont smell good then u should get rid of them. when thawing out chicken dont leave it out on the counter. u should put it in the fridge to thaw or u can take it out of the package and put in a pan with running cold water or to put them in the microwave to speed defrost

If they were still nice and cold when you put them in the fridge, go ahead and use them. Just be sure to cook thoroughly. If they were kinda warm, toss them out!

Yes, they will be ok--but it's safer to thaw food in the fridge. It takes longer, but bacterial growth is minimal!
