For the first time in years, I will be flying (domestically, not internationally). What is the current protocol at security for my laptop computer? And, any other tips re: security checkpoint for a first business flight in years?

Take the laptop out of the case and put it in the bin that goes through x-ray. If you take liquids, you have to limit them to 3 oz each and put them in a quart zip lock bag. The bag goes through the x-ray separately-you take it out of your carry on bag. No water or other liquids going through security, altho you can buy liquids after you go through security. You can put whatever you want in a suitcase you check in. Go to the airline website and click on security

Make sure you have your laptop in its own case. When you get to the airport use it as carry on. When you go through security you will be asked to remove it from its case and asked to open it to make sure its real. Really no problem at all with it. I do suggest you have a zip up laptop case and beware of people trying to steel them. I does happen, I had a long strap on mine and would tie it around a chair arm or if I had it on the floor the strap was around my foot. Keep it in sight at all times and zipped closed.

Enjoy your travel. I did it for 4 years. I also recommend that the more you put in your luggage the better it is. Just not the laptop.

You just have to remove the laptop from the case going through security -
You are allowed to carry one 1 bag and 1 personal item
( laptop is considered a personal item)

Of course you can use the laptop in flight - off line.
If you need more information - visit your airlines web site under baggage requirements
