Mack J & Gray Bear are so wrong. We have had our 'once' stray cat for over 10 years and she definately found us. She knows we love her, she knows she is protected with us and she literally knocked on our patio doors for two weeks before we let her in the house and adopted her. Rubbish to those that dont appreciate the intelligence of animals. If you look back in history Cleopatra believed that cats had unbelievable intelligence and surrounded herself with them. Various documentaries since have shown the incredible extraordinary senses they have. Your daughter was definately chosen and well done for going to the rescue service for one.

I tend to agree with you. A friends cat had 7 kittens in the Feb then a litter 10 in the July. I took a picture of the second litter and one head was sticking up against all the others. This picture was taken before I had even thought about having one of them. I was then told that there were 4 left and beig farm cats they would have been destroyed as they had enough already and had no good homes to go to. I then had one which ended up being the one sticking its head up when I took the pic.
She sadly died last year after 16 long loving years together.

Definately yes. One of my cats just walked in off the street started to eat out of my other cats bowl, and then made himself quite at home. He already had an owner somewhere because he wore a collar. But no-one claimed him, so he claimed us and we had 5 happy yrs with him until he died.
A cat ALWAYS knows what and who they like.
I think your daughter is very lucky to be chosen, and it is a special feeling to know that an animal has chosen to live with you, rather than the other way round.

I agree actually. My mum is a magnet for stray cats and they always seem to find her! One just appeared one day and she fed her for ages until she wandered into the house and took over. All three cats my mum has have found her. Our cat appeared at the end of our garden one day, the neighbour had seen him around for the last week or so but no one knew where he came from (he looks like a persian but is just a white longhair). And from that moment on he started coming in for the evening and then wandering off about 10pm. A month later he stopped wandering off and started to stay the night. That was 4 years ago. We did try to look for his owners, even putting a collar on him with a message inside and checking with local vets, it was like he appeared from nowhere. But he definately chose us!

When I got mine from the centre last year, they were in a pen with their 6 other brothers and sisters. I chose my 2 demons because they were the ones that attached themselves to my legs and wouldnt let go! (The lady had let us into the pen to meet the kittens) Im glad Ive got these 2 as their personalities are very well matched to myself and my hubby :O) xx

Cats are said to go if they feel unloved, so maybe they do choose their owners.
We've had our cat since he was a kitten, he's nearly 12years old now, funny thing, only ever came in to be fed when he was younger, now as he's getting older he's in a lot.
Our cat will only go to the females of the house unless he wants to be fed, for any love or affection, he comes to me.
He rules over my daughter's dog, puts him in his place, he's first in the feeding line, morning and evenings, the dog waits for his turn.
Cats know what they want, and will only go to whom they want, so hope your daughter feels special that Gissmo chose her.

That is really sweet and yes I think that cats can and do choose their humans. I always say our cat (Sweetie) adopted Us. She was wild, pregnant and hiding under our house when we found her. That was about 4 &1/2 years ago and we wouldn't trade her for anything. I truly believe she thinks we belong to her, instead of the other way around. LOL

Yes, cats definitely choose their people! My little black cat Inky who lives with me now decided that she was going to move in and there was not much I could do about it. She was living rough and decided that I was a soft touch and she was right! She now lives in the lap of luxury and is still with me in spite of us having moved house 18 months ago which didn't seem to faze her at all. I speak fluent cat though and perhaps this helps!
I have a Labrador too but Inky is the boss and put's him in his place several times a day!

you choose each other. the cat wont stay with you if it likes someone else better, but you dont have to have the cat if you dont want it
I chose my cats (well I didnt actually, they were the only ones in the rescue centre!) but they have chosen to stay with me for 4 years through 2 house moves because they're spoilt silly
