my neighbor just got a dog from the shelter and he has been agressive towards me .Which is freeking her out because I am dog person. and she doesn't understand it. I tried the put my hand out for him to sniff. didn't work I tried the turn my back and ignore, didn't work. finially today I tried the sit down on the floor, and that was it. the dog came right up and started licking me. my dogs are so yippy until someone that comes into my house sits down. they feel less threatened when someone sits down.

I have a Chihuahua and He was fine with people untill a consecutive of 2 insedences and now he has NOTHING to do but with Me, My Mom , Dad and Grandmother.
- First was at the Beaty Shop..He was in one of the ladys arms and another of the ladys came up..she had on these HUGE rubber gloves..Tryed to touch him and he freaked out (Peed on the lady for one..thats how bad).
Second was my Grandfather..When my puppy met him for the second time my GP acted like a 'monster' .. Scared the poor thing so bad he ran home (next door down).
Ever sense No matter what people do..He wont have anything to do with them..its a shame..but I should have told the 2 people NO that scared the poor thing..
Now people think hes 'Aggressive'..but I know its just being Scared.
Alot of people tell me Chihuahuas are like that tho. So Im not worried..As Long as he loves me! lol
I know this dosent have an Answer..But..It may be the reason yours is 'Aggressive'. Make sure its Aggressiveness and not Scardness (That a word??)

Puppies should be socialized early.
People don't understand the fact that if you establish that you are "alpha" all the little problems that your dog may have are easy to correct. It is work and consistency. Walking your dog is the first step, while you are doing that you are beginning socialization. Don't always take the same route and while walking that is all you and your dog should be doing. ie: sniffing barking, peeing his focus should be on you and only you. when he starts to get distracted correct him. (verbal, touch) By all means do not beat your dog this will only make him worse! This will begin to form a bond and trust for you. Then he will be more than willing to do and act the way you want him to. Always remember to correct the dog before he gets so fixated on something that he doesn't even know your alive!

You socialize your dog to all kinds of people, kids, situations, noises, places. Get them used to anything and everything. It's likely a 10 month old is being fearful rather than aggressive.

I agree with DP, the poor thing is frighten, you don't know how he's been treated,be kind patient and gentle, but firm at the same time. He has to mix with others, I had a little dog like that, she came round ok.
Good Luck

Let him meet anybody that comes up. Make sure they are nice to him/her. Have friends and family come to your house and visit him/her often. It is better to let him/her meet people in his territory(He/she feels safe that way).
