I have been dieting for a while and lost weight, but my mom fears I am losing too much weight and says I need to put fat in my body for my muscles to grow ( I work-out; I only eat low-fat or fat-free foods)

Do I REALLY need to eat fattening things if I want to lose weight AND I want my muscles to grow? I have a really weird hourglass kind of figure and it makes my chest look huge, so I won't be satisfied until I lose a lot of weight >_
Thank you!

having sufficient fats in the diet is just as important as getting in sufficient protein and carbohydrates. fatty acids are used to manufacture many hormones if the fat intake is too low then testosterone production decreases. when the level of circulating androgens decreases the amount of muscle mass HAS to decrease.

you say you have been losing weight. have you even had your body fat measured to see how much fat and muscle you have actually lost? that is the biggest mistake that most dieters make, they get so caught up in seeing numbers on the scale decrease they don't think about the fact that they may be losing just as much fat as muscle which of course decreases the metabolic rate and when they come off the diet the regain all of the weight back and then some

I been doing the same, I've lost 17 lbs eating low fat foods. What I recommend is that you have healthy meals combined with work outs, cardio and soon you'll se the difference!! To answer your question, you can eat foods that are not fat free.
