I got my conure one year ago this month and just added two baby parakeets. I have the conure in a big cage and have the small cage on top. I let the conure out of the cage and he seems okay with them. I have not tried to take the parakeets out yet, but was hoping I can eventually put the birds in the same cage? What is the easiest way to go about getting them out of the small cage? Any insight would be great!

No!!! I highly recommend that you do not put those 2 species in the same cage. For one thing, that big cage is your conure's "domain". Even if he seems fine with the new birds in their own little cage, he will not be happy with them intruding in his territory. He's had a year to claim that cage as is own.

Conures can be very nippy. It would take less than 2 seconds for him to bite off the toes or the beaks of your baby budgies. In fact, I sure hope your babies don't stand on the bottom of their cage because the conure could very easily nip their toes off through the top of his cage. Are they flighted, or have their wings been clipped?

I wouldn't even suggest having the birds out of their cages at the same time, but if you do, be sure you are within arm's length of all of them so you can break up a fight at a second's notice. Even if you are hypervigilant, your conure can do deadly damage to a budgie in a fraction of a second.

Unless you have a huge aviary, so all the birds can get away from each other very easily, and so none of them claim the entire aviary as their own territory, combining them in one place is a terrible idea. Please don't take any chances.

The only bird we suggest keeping with Budgies are cockatiels that are not breeding and make sure the Budgies are at least 4 months old first. Even if you think they are going to temporarily get along, eventually the connure will kill or maim the Budgies. We do not even sell connures because they are nasty as adults, lots of times even when handfed. They prefer the companionship of one person and pick on anything or everyone else.

It could definitely work but I think you should take it slow getting them accustomed to each other. You can sometimes take them out and see how they react upon each other with the consent of them being supervised. Try putting their cages close to each other and see the reaction and if there's no problem I think you could make it work but this is sometimes
rare because parrots are slightly Territorial animals. I know people who've been able to cope with new birds in the same cages with older birds but likewise I think you should take it slow and I wish the best of luck for you and your birds.Oh yeah, when I take my parakeets out i make slow movements
and press my finger gently against their breast so they lose balance and have no choice but to step up with my finger acting as a perch but sometimes they go crazy and flutter like crazy, in these cases you have to gain their trust but they're quiet easy to tame compared to parrots. Its a good thing you
got your birds at a young age because they aren't so frightened at this stage and you can teach them to have a good picture in mind when it comes to humans. Good luck again.

yes but your conure is alot bigger than the parakeet and can easily injure it by biting at it.my advice is to keep them in seperate cages but let them out to play together at the same time.

I would not mix the Conure with the Keets... it will be a short time and the Conure will disassemble the keets...
