I am 20 and just had my scoliosis surgery 2 months ago. They did not find my scoliosis until I was 17 and a half. Technically, I am still recovering, as I cannot bend over, sit or stand for long periods of time, or lift over 5 pounds. I walked the day after my surgery. I was in some pain right after my surgery, I had a Morphine button that I could push every 10 minutes, I also received Oxycontin, and Valium, for pain. Now, 2 months out of my surgery, I am taking 6 ibuprofen a day. I have 1 stainless steel rod, and they also did some bone grafting, taking bone from my hip and using it to fuse my rod to my spine. I am still 'bed ridden' for a majority of my time, but i also spend a lot of time sitting, standing, I go for a walk daily, I can drive, I go to Wal*Mart, and Target, tomorrow I have to go get my license redone. I can also ride a bicycle, a stationary bike, and I can go swimming. I will start physical therapy here in about 3 months. I was out of the hospital 7 and a half days after my surgery. The most painful part since I've been home, was from my bone graft, it made my hip hurt until just 2 weeks ago. The pain I was in when I was in the hospital was very well controlled, I never saw myself as a 'strong' person when it came to pain, but I hardly cried throughout this whole experience. I hope I have answered most of your questions and I would be welcome to answer anymore that you may have. Feel free to e-mail me at IrishRose1987@yahoo.com

You will likely have a couple of steel rods put in your back, along with a bunch of other stuff.
You will not be bed bound for more than a couple days likely before physical therapy.
You will leave the acute care hospital after a couple days or weeks, and go to inpatient rehab for a couple weeks or months.
Ask your surgeon mor the details.
Only he know his plan and the exact nature of your disease.
