Don't bother putting him to bed later - everyone has an internal clock of when to wake up so it really won't make a difference, and will only make him crabby.
Is he still napping? If so, I would cut out the nap, that will help.
Other than that, there is not a ton you can do, but you can at least try to make it a little more tolerable for yourself (I cannot start the day before 6am!) - if he's willing, try to leave him in his bed when he wakes up as long as humanly possible - sometimes you're lucky and they doze off again. So make sure he has some soft toys in his bed, some books, water, etc. Whatever may help him entertain himself, so you can maybe get a little more sleep. Other than that, all you can do is maybe bring him in your bed and let him watch tv while you slowly wake up.

Had this problem with my baby when she was about 10 months - up at 5:30 am every day. What worked for me:
1. Try to move his bedtime back by 5 minutes every night. A slow move may help the tranisition work better. 2. Buy some black-out curtains. Maybe the light coming in is effecting his sleep (might not apply now that Daylight Savings in in effect). 3. If he still takes a nap, shorten it. Wake him up 30 minutes into his 2 hour nap (or whatever seems appropriate). 4. Get tough-love on him. Tell him its still night time, and he needs to go back to sleep. He can't get out of bed yet. Use a baby gate to block him from leaving his room if needs be.
I have a friend that did this, and it works for her 2 1/2 year old. I do it with my 18 month old. She doesnt alway go back to sleep, but she will play in her crib until wake up time - 6:20am in my house.
Good luck. I know how hard it is!

My son didn't require much sleep so I can relate. The best thing to do is try putting him to sleep later. I know you said you have tried this, but habits can take a while to break. My guess is if you try it for a week and don't let him go to sleep before 9:00 pm, then eventually it will catch up to him and he will sleep in a little later. Also, it may be the light waking him - so if it's light at that time, you may want to put something heavy over his window. Kids change a lot - so it might just be something that won't last. Good luck - that is a hard one.

I dont know how to get him to sleep later, but when my kids went through that 5 am phase, I use to just take a pillow and blanket and sleep in their room while they played. Or bring a few toys in your room and let him play while you sleep. I just closed the doors and they stayed in as long as I was around, eventually they did start sleeping later.

some babies have different sleeping patterns my father goes to bed at 8:00 and wakes up at 5:00. He' going to bed really early so he'll problably wake up really early. Talk to your doctors about sleeping pills. Maybe he has insomia and barely goes to sleep. Whenever i had nightmares i would always wake up early.

Tell him to come to your bed, get under the covers, and go to sleep with you.

Sounds like that is just his sleeping pattern. He is getting enough rest. You should try and sleep ealier so you can help yourself get better adapted to his schedule.
