In a response to another question, someone stated, “I also don’t understand why [Catholics] think [Mary] was divine." Do some really believe that Catholicism teaches Mary was divine, and if so, why? (Catholicism does NOT teach this, by the way.)

Today: That says she excels in the divine virtues, not that she IS divine! The divine virtues are faith, hope, and charity.

No, of course it doesn't. American fundementalists believe anything that is told to them about catholics. You know, its funny. They talk about how catholics march lock step with the Pope, but they are more likely to go along with their ministers un-questioning than catholics are any day.

If anyone was ignorant enough to believe that you just informed them about how wrong they were. All you can learn with this poll is whether or not someone is stupid. You may want to reask this without the note about what the Catholic Church teaches about Mary in reality. The results will probibly be more informative, but who knows, I've been wrong before.
Catholic belief about asking saints, including Mary, to pray with you to God is backed by (2 Maccabeas 15:11, 12, 14). Tobit 12:12 an angel gave Tobit's prayer to God, and God responded through the angel in Tobit 12:14. Luke 16:19-31, the parable about Lazarus and the rich man, please read it and note that the rich man goes to Abraham.
1 Corinthians 12:12-27 describes how we are all reliant on others for help. Revelation 6:9-11; 5:6-8; 8:3-4 also support Catholic beliefs about praying to saints including Mary. There is also the basic logic concept, if we can pray for eachother in life, why should death end this ability?
I understand that some of the Biblical citations I gave won't be found in Protestant Bibles. Luther went for the Hebrew canon, not the (older?) Alexandrine canon which Catholics use, and Jesus quoted on occasion.
Yes Catholics do read the Bible. Nearly the entire Bible is read in 3 years, assuming the parish obeys the Vatican directives and doesn't withhold Biblical readings from the faithful. Catholics are also encouraged to read the Bible on their own.

If you are asking about my response I stated "Thus having given birth, according to his human nature, to the person of Jesus, who is a divine person, Mary is the Mother of God."
I was implying that Jesus was "divine" not Mary and I agree with you Catholicism does not teach that way

www.scripturecatholic.com elect, and superior to all, not by the altitude of lofty structures, but as excelling all in the greatness and purity of sublime and divine virtues, and having no affinity with sin whatever." Germanus of Constantinople, Marracci in S. Germani Mariali (ante A.D. 733
It was fitting ...that the most holy-body of Mary, God-bearing body, receptacle of God, divinised, incorruptible, illuminated by divine grace and full glory ...should be entrusted to the earth for a little while and raised up to heaven in glory, with her soul pleasing to God." I am not a Catholic (I used to be).
Mary is not, and was not divine.
She is a person worthy of admiration for the manner in which she magnified her sacred calling as the Mother of Jesus Christ.
Only Christ was and still is Divine.

Praying for you. there is better than one way that someone could be saved. One is to sin and then be redeemed, the different is to be saved by ability of God from sin earlier someone ever sins. that's what befell to Mary, consequently there is not any contradiction with Luke a million:40 seven. Romans 3:23 says that "all have sinned". Have they? A newborn, a million minute old, has sinned? No. someone with a extreme psychological handicap is likewise incapable of sin. Jesus never sinned. consequently Paul can't be conversing of actually that "all have sinned". extremely you're able to desire to verify the way he makes use of the notice "all", it incredibly is the Greek "pantes". working example, a million Cor. 15:22: 1Cor. 15:22 For only as in Adam all die, so too in Christ shall all be dropped at existence, If all ("pantes") ability "all" then you would desire to even have confidence in standard salvation, no? additionally see Rom. 5:12, Rom. 5:19. As on your "question" on the subject of the belief, it stems from the two historic witness and is a corollary to the actuality that the became immaculately conceived (Luke a million:28, google "kecharitomene") then she lived a sinless existence because of the supernatually considerable graces from God she won. Then Jesus "venerated his mum and dad" and extra her physique and soul into heaven. all the grave web pages of the early Christians have been nicely marked and revered, yet why no longer our Lord's mom? because of the fact she has no grave website. additionally, you're the two mendacity that Catholics say Mary is the "co-saviour" or are at a loss for words, possibly you meant "Co-Redemptrix". Redemption isn't comparable to salvation. devoid of Catholicism, you will possibly have not have been given any Bible, and there may be no sola scriptura, it incredibly is a thoroughly unbiblical doctrine of guys. Marian truths come from notice of mouth, it incredibly is, from sacred (oral) custom. 2 Thessalonians 2:15 consequently, brothers, stand company and carry speedy to the traditions which you have been taught, the two by ability of an oral assertion or by ability of a letter of ours. it form of feels that Catholics (and jap Orthodox) are the only incredibly Bible-watching Christians, because of the fact they settle for each verse of scripture, at the same time with 2 Thess. 2:15, which destroys sola scriptura.

Mary was not divine. I thought Catholics believe this because of the extra books added on to their bible, called the Apacrifa (I spelled that wrong), well in there it says Mary accended to Heaven.

Well, they do teach this. They just call it by another name. They believe that Mary and her mother were conceived sinless as was Jesus.
Unfortunate as it is, the catholic church has mastered the art of lying.
Many, many good Christian people belong to the catholic church. However, like the Jehovah's Witness and the Mormons, they are in a cult and do not know it. They actually believe what their priest are telling them. The sad part is-they are taught that they are right and you (other Christians) are wrong. You can not help them-they are brain washed.

No. We love her she is our Mother and she is Holy because God makes her Holy the same as he makes us Holy but, she is not Divine. That is only The Father the Son and The Holy Spirit.

God honored her above all creatures by making her the mother of His Son. In honoring Mary, we are following the example of God Himself. Mary's special privileges were given to her by God, not man. But, no we do not consider her to be divine.
God bless,
