I actively avoid places such as those that you've described. And I make sure I at least learn the basics of the language such as hello, please and thank you...and have a phrase book to help me attempt anything more.

Talk about sweeping generalisations. Lots of people go to places with the specific intention of avoiding that sort of holiday. Spain (or parts of anyway) is like that because it was Brits who started to go on holiday there in the first palce, the first package holidays went to places like the Costa's becasue it is so close, and thats what people wanted then. Also lots of Brits move to Spain to open bars and restaurants, and they end up with a British theme.

Silly isn't it? when they could opt for a weird place like Paupa new guinne and get eaten by Cannibal's. most people go "on holiday for a rest, or change of scenery, and whatever they call fun for" them "is their business, so stop fretting about it
