Burning an effigy of Jesus would make little sense to an Atheist. An Atheist does not believe in any God, so burning an effigy of something that does not exist has no meaning, and thus no validity to an Atheist.

Traditions are things that you have to occupy your time when you're not doing anything else, and we're too busy reading all the great works of science and literature (and religion, just out of intellectual curiosity) to have any free time. So just never got around to forming any, I suppose.
Actually that's not true. We drink the blood of Christian girl-child's kitty cats at midnight. - No, hang on, that's not true either.
Incidentally, I have no problem at all with Jesus - great guy. It's faith in god (and okay, churches too) that I have a problem with.

It's traditional for atheists to live by their own morals rather than allowing other people to dictate ethics to them, but only in the same way that it's traditional to chew your food before you swallow.

They do. Science is a tradition. The Encyclopaedia and the Enlightenment project are traditions.

While I too can enjoy laughing at religious traditions, what is the value that you propose in such a violent religious-like reaction to beliefs that we do not hold?

An Atheist is someone who doesn't have a belief system. So to then get 'traditions', would make it hypocritical.

Pointless ritual is the stuff of religions. Eating wafers, quaffing bad wine, wasting hours in dark chambers listening to dreary "music" - how much does it take to persuade people that atheism is the right choice - you don't HAVE to do all the ritual stuff!
