My friend was arrested, but he is out on bond. Do you know what is on his criminal record right now and who can look at it? And if his case is dismissed--no charges are filed--what happens then? Is there any record of his arrest?

Yes there is a record of his arrest, his criminal record won't show any information on this case until it gets done in court, but it will show that he has been arrested. They only people that can look at a criminal record are police officers. Employers can request a copy and your friend can request one, but he needs to go to his local police department, or sheriffs office, he will have to pay for it and they won't give it to him on the spot, it will take a few weeks.

There is a record of him being arrested and his coming court date in NCIC (National Criminal Database). Police using the computers in their cars along with those who run NCIC can pull up his record. If his case is dismissed the records will be kept for several years, I believe its about 7 to 10 years.
