How to stop dogs from barking?

I have a chihuahua and she barks constantly whenever she hears other sounds or people. I've tried several methods, collars, etc. but nothing works. Anyone have any suggestions?

I would also recommend the spray bottle...unless he likes water then your pretty much screwed...but only do it when he barks that way he can get the message, and sooner or later whenever he sees the spray bottle he'll stop before you spray.

Have you tried a collar with a tone on it? Also what worked with our little dog was getting a squirt bottle and putting ice cold water in it and squirting her directly on the nose with it every time she barked. She now only barks when someone is knocking at the door.

Try a water bottle with a firm "No". Another idea is a pop can filled with pennies or pebbles. Shake the can and do your firm "no". Sometimes the noise is enough to stop them. They also have citronella spray collars.

well you can't really stop a dog from barking but if you must get it shock collar very time he barks it will send a small shock to him and he will almost always shut up but if not well I tried.

Chihuahua's have a tendency to be yappers. I don't know what part of the world you live in here in Australia it is illegal to have a dog debarked in some states including mine (Victoria) just last week I drove 1600 kl to another state to have one of my dogs debarked after making a statuary declaration stating it was a last resort short of euthanasia.
No side effect my dog is as happy as ever and I have peace along with my neighbours.

have you tried a spray bottle? spraying the yuck stuff in her direction? a coke can with some pennies?? a little flick in the rump?
