I have heard little bad about living in Savannah. With your boyfriend wanting to be in the food industry, you cannot go wrong. Savannah is known for old fashioned southern charm as well as proximity to the beach and islands. These put together mean tourists. Tourists mean eating out and nice restaurants. That is good for your boyfriend. It is a beautiful city, bustling and full of things to do. The parks and archeticture is very old fashioned south. Hey, it is the home to the 2nd biggest St. Patrick's day festival in the country. The town has to have some appeal for that. But you have to remember that Savannah is still a small city. If you are a career driven corporate person, Savannah may not have the job market you need. Atlanta steals most of that away. If you are looking for a major city in the general area that will support both your goals, Atlanta is probably a better bet. Now if you are just looking for any good job, Savannah should be fine. I have not heard of people having too much trouble in that job market. Good luck, go there to visit, and have fun.

i also grew up there and probably not a day goes by i don't miss it. We lived on one of the islands out to the beach. It is a big city that's a small town and very conservative despite the Art college headquartered there. Watch Midnight in the Garden movie - if you can get past the acting, you'll get a very good taste of native savannahians.
It is a bizarre, bizarre city but you can't beat the downtown. I remember a guy who worked at 7/11 during the day and dressed up like Dracula at night. He was absolutely harmless, just played dracula in a play and loved the costume. THAT sums up Savannah to me. (That's not meant to freak you out, just to say there's quite a bit of eccentricity there.) It is a tourist town though - big time. It is a haunted city and you can feel it some nights in the air but it's beautiful, if not over run with mosquitos. Take a visit this spring and I'll be surprised if you don't fall in love...

I grew up in Savannah and and it is absolutely one of the most beautiful and affordable cities to live in. The downtown area and the islands attract people from all over the country, half of my friends didnt even grow up there. However, it is a very small city so depending on what your career goals are you may want to go to Charleston or Atlanta instead.

You might want to visit the city for a few days before just packing up & moving there. Have you ever lived in the South?

Savanna is wonderful, whether you want to chill out at your apartment or home, its also affordable, or whether you just want to go clubbing, shopping (we have 2 malls Oglethorpe and the Savannah Mall, Oglethorpe is my favorite) or just do whatever.

If your going to move to Georgia why not move to the ATL. Why would you want to move to a smaller city like Savannah. Plus its haunted.
