Exodus 34:14
Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

Deuteronomy 4:24
For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

And he is RIGHT in his jealousy--for He is God, and we should all look to Him as our Savior and Lord. For He loves those who seek Him-- Did you know this? "The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him" Lamentations 3:25
Jeremiah 31:3
The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.
Do you understand God's love and his jealousy? And how they are righteous?

The verse in Jeremiah speaks of the jews, yes, but it also refers to those whom the Lord has chosen for Himself--He LOVES us who are saved with an everlasting love! Do not worry I did not take it out of context my friend~

WHOA! Dont' get this confused with me saying jealousy is ok, NO< we are of sin, and it is not good for us to be jealous, I am speaking of GOD'S ways--and how He is jealous because HE is God, and when others seek false gods, this provokes him to jealousy as the Bible says- because HE alone should be worshipped and praised. No we should not be jealous of others...I am not speaking on human terms, I am speaking about God and how AWESOME He is-- And How I do love Him so much, I want the world to know how sin provokes him, and one sin is rejecting Him, the only unforgiveable sin!

God's a jealous god because he wants his people to honor and worship him, not idols and statue gods that don't exist.

Actually, I've always had a problem with that because of this verse from Corinthians:

Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

why oh why must people proselytize on this sight. just because it says r&s does not mean that it is christian oriented.

if jealousy is righteous, then how is it a sin (thou shalt not covet)? is it just okay for god to covet?

"a consuming fire"? interesting. a loving god who is name is jealous.

ya'll christians have an interesting theology. i think i'll worship whoever i want.....for if god didn't want there to be other gods, i suppose she wouldn't have made them an option.

It always seemed to me that an all powerful, "supreme" being would be above such petty and ugly emotions like jealousy. Just one of the many reasons I left Christianity.

Absolutely. God likened his covenant with a marriage bond. And any one of us would be upset if we were betrayed by our mate.

I often hear the question posed "Why would God really care if we want to sin or not?" The answer is he HATES sin and it is not going to go unpunished. If you do make a covenant with God under Jesus to have your sins forgiven, you have to leave your life of sin!

i don't care. i teach my child that its wrong to be jealous of someone else. i hate to think that i can teach my child something that an all powerful god cant understand. sounds like he throws a lot of temper tantrums too. great everybody when you die you have to answer to a 6 tear old. bring play-dough and candy.

Yes, I do understand that God is a jealous God!

Yes, I do completely. But I also believe that NO ONE is to be put before God. To me that means Jesus as well. I also do not believe in the Trinity. I know that will get lots of hateful thumbs down from Christians, but... so be it. We are all entitled to our beliefs.
