That is a ridiculous mindset! With as many different blends of Christianity, studying pretty much any of them will give some degree of "false religious matter". Baptism...required or not required? One or the other is already in false religious matter territory. Which one depends on who you ask. Saved by grace or by works? Okay, looks like half of those are false religious matter. Sheesh, we don't even need to look outside of one religion to find that there are some things right and some things wrong. If it is okay to look into different Christian denominations, why not into other religions? At LEAST to know what they teach!

As a christian, I think that you should know somewhat about other religion's so you can know how to witness to them and share the gospel. But if you are a beginning Christian and are not strong enough to read other religious materials for fear of falling away from God. Then I don't recommend learning about other religions quit yet. Only once if you have learned about The Christian religion and gotten to know it better.

When your born-again, your like a baby.
Then, your supposed to grow-up to maturity.
As a baby, if that baby dosen't have a teacher or someone to watch over them, they can get into trouble studying other stuff until they learn "what GOD said" about some basic child of GOD things and even then, they should be careful about things.
It is kinda like growing up physically, you don't let a 3 year old drive a car. See?
You have to grow and learn to stay safe.
Hope this helps.

I've found studying other religions or other people's beliefs that many times it solidifies what I currently believe. It also gives me the opportunity to learn other lessons of love.....people should study as much as they can and grow spiritually. Universal truths can be discovered, but only if you are seeking the answers....

I think the study of religions is very important, especially if you're going to join one. It is of note that the scriptures of all the major religions are so similar, it's obvious that God spoke to all people everywhere in their own languages. It makes me happy to know that, and it gives me patience to keep trying to be a loving neighbor to everyone. If you're seeing satan everywhere, then take responsibility for that. He'd want you to feel that way, to make you afraid to learn to understand and love your neighbor, wouldn't he. By their fruit shall you know them.

At one time it was punished by death to have a copy of the Bible, the ones doing the punishing was the Christian church.
The logic they used for this act was that they didn't want anyone to fall victim to any wrong interpretations of Gods word. I could never understand why the church could tell someone what the proper interpretation was, that they couldn't read for themselves, and why kill them for wanting to read the Bible.

Thought control. Remarkably low form of religion. I'll bet Father K has read a few things about Methodism...he seems fine to me.

I depise people who believe that kind of dreck.

I am Christian and I must say that is a very poor way of thinking. I study other faiths a lot just to see what they believe. I think it is crazy to not attempt to understand other people. Peace be with you
