if you have a big dog this could be a problem, especially if he jumps on your guests to.

The following may sound a little cruel, but it works and the dog is not injured.

Next time he jumps on you, snap your knee up into his chest. not really hard, but hard enough so he gets the message. After doing this once or twice, he will get the message. If he is doing this to other people, have a friend come over and do the same thing you did. This will get him to realize that he cannot do this to you or anyone else. He will realize that it is ok to say hi and stuff but jumping is bad.

I have done this to my dog as well and he got the message real fast. keep in mind I am 5'2 and weigh about 120 lbs, so when big dogs jump on me its hard to stand up. I have also had friends have me over for this very reason...so that way their dog knows not to jump on anyone.

We had the same problem with our lab. He just gets so excited to see you that he forgets his manners. What worked for us was this:
1) When she jumped on us we would put our knee up
2) When that stopped working we would kick out, NOT striking her but letting her know there was a boundary
3) When this didn't work we used a water bottle and squirted her with it directly on the tip of her nose
4) If your dog is still stubborn after this purchase a training collar that has a tone and a electric stimulation---whenever you see him going to jump push the tone button, I would only use the shock button if he is still really aggressively not listening.

You can find training collars on EBay anywhere from $10-$75 depending on the size of your dog and if you want a brand new one or used one.

I would try some of the other methods before you spend too much more money on training him though. Make sure he knows that you are the "alpha" in the relationship! Use a firm tone of voice when you tell him "no" or "down".

Good Luck

Is everybody ignoring him till he gets down and then they give him attention? Either get there early before class or stay a little after class. Have him walk around and meet people. Tell the people that he has to sit to get a treat from them. Do this every time you go to the store or anywhere else you are in public with him. You could also get some bitter apple spray and spray it right in his mouth then add a firm "down" with it. Most dogs do not like this stuff. After a while, you just hold up the bottle and he'll stop. If you go for a training collar, please try the one that sprays citronella first.

First of all, never pet or praise him after he has jumped on you. Use the technique previously mentioned, knee him in the chest, it doesn't have to be hard, just hard enough to push him back. After a couple of times, he'll get the idea and then once he is calm and sitting you can praise him.
Same goes for guests. A lot of times they don't want to do this, but insist that they do so he will know this behavior is not allowed.

When your dog jumps on you --you should bring your knee up at the same time so he gets the knee instead of getting to jump on you. That is the way you are suppose to stop that action...( ask a trainer...Its for real, doesn't hurt dog ) as for other training , be patient. Sometime it takes one longer than the other..

we do a combo of 3 things:
1. squirt bottle by the door.
2. can w/ coins by the door.
3. kneeing the dog when it jumps.

we will try to grab either the squirt bottle or the can, which ever is closest. then when the puppy comes charging ready to rear, we shake or squirt and say NO JUMP. it's worked.

my dog did this too! when he jumps on you either take a step back or a step forward so that the dog falls . this sounds mean but it really works. after about two or more times no more jumping for you! :)

If it is jumping when you walk in the door what I have found to work is put your hands on his shoulders so he can not jump up, and get down to him to show him some attention. If he is constantlly jumping, turn your back to him when he jumps or pull your knee up to block its jump, that is what my vet told me.
