Best/Most Authentic- Rai Rai Ken in the east village.
Great- Men Kui Tei on 56th between 5/6Ave.
Very Good- Minka in Alphabet City.
Menchankotei and the others are not REAL noodleshops, they are just Japanese restaurants specializing in noodles. You want the real deal, you hit the above three spots. If you are insistent on getting ramen, you may want to cross the river to NJ where Santoka and Batten Ramen are. Santoka is in the Mitsuwa shopping center, where you can get Tonkatsu, Sushi and other Japanese fare while shopping for authentic Japanese groceries as well.

I've never heard of a ramen noodle shop, but that's probably because I live in Mississippi.... We only have ramen noodles in a pack at the grocery store.
