No, I'm not trying to be funny or insulting.

Not too long ago, I addressed this woman in a store whom I initially thought was a man. Very short hair, no makeup, jeans, t-shirt, nothing to suggest femininity whatsoever. I referred to her as "sir" and she about went ballistic. "I am NOT a 'sir', I'm a 'ma'am!!! How dare you? Blah blah blah..." All I could do was apologize over and over again. So embarrassing....

Anyway, has this ever happened to you or know someone it has happened to? How did you deal with it or she deal with it? And how did the other person who addressed you as "sir" react when he/she was corrected?

I once shaved my head, I had done so much to my hair with dying and cutting it, that I was sick of it and just shaved it off. Not only did people think I was a guy, they also felt bad for me and thought I had cancer and was going thru chemo. One day at the grocery store, a female cashier said "sir, we are open on aisle 5" when I got there, she saw i was a girl, and started to apologise. I told her " Well, I at least hope you thought I was a HOT guy"lol. i didnt think it was a big deal.....

No, I have never been mistaken for a boy, or accidentally called someone by the wrong name. BUT, my brother has long hair and some guy approached us at a store and said, "beautiful day isn't it ladies?". I started laughing SO hard as my brother turned around and looked at the guy and the guy got a better look at my very large brother with his abondance of facial hair. Ha ha ha ha! It still makes me lol! My brother is about 6' 2", 275 lbs, and musclar shoulders about 3' wide, how anyone could mistake him for a girl I have NO idea! ha ha ha ha ha!

i never get my hair cut shorter than my shoulders, but i remember when i was like 5 or 6 and my parents got my hair cut REALLY short (i was so mad at them for that...still am) and we were some place, don't remember where and i was wearing a blue pokadot DRESS and some people near by made a comment that i was a cute boy or something. i started crying. it was horrible. lol. but i've never called anyone a guy that was a girl, and hopefully it won't happen to me again.

when i was in 5th and 6th grade i use to shop in the guy section and borrow my brothers clothing, plus i had very short hair. And i got asked out by a couple of girls who thought i was the hottest guy they'd ever seen. but then again i didn't really like dressing like a girl. but ya, all my friends thought i was a guy the first time they met me. i feel like a dork looking back at that time in my life. thankfully i now dress like a girl and guys think i'm attractive. lol.
