It is not rude just to 'add'... they will still have to either accept or deny the request. Those who do not want requests have the option not to accept them from anyone who doesn't know their name and email address.
I attract a lot of creeps & spammers, and I'm mainly on MySpace for family, so I added to my profile that I will only accept friend requests that are accompanied by a message.
It's *nice* to send a message.
If I get requests with no message, I'll save them for a while (if the profile sounds interesting) before approving them. It is amazing how many profiles disappear after just a couple of days because they were not "real" people (spammers, usually).
And be sure to read Tom's blog entry regarding phishing... people get their accounts hijacked a LOT on there, but it's easy to prevent if you know what to watch for.
It's unfortunate that most of the people there are not as polite as you are concerned about being. Good for you!
Good luck and have fun!

there is not any "myspace etiquette." whether there grow to be, you do no longer ought to stay with it because of the fact it would in all probability be thoroughly ridiculous besides. pay attention, it is not substantial what all of us is goign to assert for an answer to this, the only ingredient that count it what you think of. in case you prefer to assert thank you to somebody you further or somebody who further you as a sparkling buddy on myspace, then do exactly it! Its extremely severe high quality regardless of the undeniable fact that which you're thinking this plenty approximately being polite. besides the shown fact that do no longer go by utilising somebody else's opinion approximately what's "appropriate" or no longer. make certain for youself, the two a chum or a band it is not substantial, they shoudl be satisfied to get a thank you from you. i understand i consistently like it whilst somebody responds once I settle for their request or i upload them. Plus you do no longer prefer to circulate including friends without chatting with them, and asserting "whats up thank you for the upload" is a superb thank you to get a communique going. nicely ihope this helped in some way, sturdy success. :)

i have myspace.
I think it is ok to add anyone you know, thats the point of myspace.i even add people i know but not very well, so i can get to know them better.
start with leaving a comment such as:
'hi there, i just came across your profile and thought i would say hi.
how are you? what are you up to these days?'
or if you dont know them :
'hi there, i noticed we live near each other and thought i would say hi.'
and then continue from there.
Hope this helps!

I am with others who say it is not rude at all. Simply add and if they like your profile they will accept and possibly add you.
There's nothing rude about it at all. Online is a different world.
