yes, it is a very low impact cardiovascular workout, and works the entire body, it is one of the best exercises out there, provided you know how to swim.

You can lose weight doing anything physical - as long as you don't eat more calories than you burn! Swimming burns a lot of calories, but beware, it can make you very hungry afterwards! I highly recommend swimming because (hopefully) you will shed fat and gain muscle, giving your body a sleek, toned look. It's great cardio, without the stressful pounding on your joints. At times it can be boring, but try giving yourself goals to meet (I PROMISE if you put in the effort, you will make tremendous progress very quickly. Swimming is a fun sport that way). Try seeing how far you can swim without stopping, or if that is too long, work on your times for 50's, 100's, or whatever distance you feel best swimming! Mix it up with fins, kick board, paddles, and pool buoys.
Hope you try it!

Swimming is excellent choice of cardio workout. It tones and strengthens your entire body just as running (maybe more than because your arms are getting more of a workout), without the strain on your joints.
You can certainly lose weight by using swimming as cardio exercise. With a healthy diet, its a great choice.

doing exercise in the pool is very beneficial. Not only can you not feel your muscles hurting, it works your muscles extra because of the resistance in the water.
