They feel like it's an extra service like styling. Its b/s I know what you mean. So i let them blow dry my hair and leave a smaller tip, alot of times you can find a salon that offers a style and cut combo, which is great normally around 30 bucks.

Society is lazy listen the more work they have to do (blow dry)the more there going to charge. It's easier to set the dryer and have you sit for 20 to 30 minutes than to hold a blow dryer and physically dry your hair. I know it's crazy just like getting a relaxer or perm your looking at 75 to 80 dollars when you can go to your local drug store buy a perm for 6 or 7 dollars and do the same thing yourself and save so much money. It's all a game. Are you playing???

That always used to bother me...until i worked in a hair salon. The main reason why they charge for blow drying is because some clients (alot of clients) take advantage. They will come in with waist length curly, curly hair and ask for it to be blow dried straight. That takes hours! The stylist would then take 2 hours to blow dry, while she could be doing a dye or cut and make money.
So there's the answer. Alot of the time if you are doing other things than a blow dry, they wont charge you.

They've ALWAYS done that - it was just included in the price.
It's only normal, it's what takes longest for them in some cases. The people need to make a living.

If you don't want to go out wet, ask if you can use their blowdryer or sit under a hood dryer. Most will say "absolutely" and you saved your precious $5.
BTW- I totally agree with Harley G.....

Yea, I don't understand that either. Or when you go to get your hair done and they charge you $5 for trimming your ends. Isn't the whole reason why I went to the shop was because I wanted to maintain healthy hair, so why doesn't trimming come standard?

Perhaps because its no longer just a simple case of blasting the hair to rid it of moisture, its more time consuming than it used to be.
It takes longer to blow dry my hair than it does to cut it!

Because they can.
And as long as you're willing to pay for it (and/or continue to patronize salons that charge you to blow dry), then you're going to have to deal.
It's called simple economics.
Call around and find a Salon that doesn't charge for a blow-dry, or tell your stylist "I'd tip you, but I can't afford it after you charge me for the blow-dry."
