A bigger grip does not assist in creating more clubhead speed, and therefore does not add distance. In fact, due to the increased size of the grip there is less shaft rotation through the swing and this could potentially lead to a slight distance loss.
The decreased shaft rotation could have the added bonus if slightly increased accuracy though; and if you have a problem hooking the ball left, then a larger grip could decrease that tendency.
As a rule of thumb when dealing with grip size your middle finger should just barely touch the pad of your thumb on a properly sized grip.

hope this helps and happy golfing!

If you wear an extra large golf glove or bigger then 1/64 oversize might be OK. They will help a hook, will cause a slice. If you can palm a basketball then maybe 1/8th oversize. You can always put two or three wraps of grip tape on your shaft and the install a grip and try it. If it doesn't work then cut the grip and the grip tape off and go back to what is considered standard. Or is you really want to know for sure. Then go to ping.com and they have an on line fitting. All you have to have is a tape measure to get the length in inches that they ask you for. It is self explanatory. And if you want more distance, then get some lessons. You will always hit it farther with a smooth swing and hitting it in the center of the club face. Just the lucky people in the world can swing hard and hit it in the center of the club face. What is that guys name that does it real well. I think it starts with a T.

I would answer you this way. If your hands are larger than avg .....Yes it might enhance control and possibly allow more distance......If you have pain in your fingers after a few shots (Maybe arthritus) Larger grip will help somewhat.....It has more to do with what size grip allows you to grip the club properly to allow proper rotation of the wrists during the contact with the ball

personally, i think if you are comfortable with a bigger and thicker grip, it will help you.
golf is all about relaxation. if you feel that the grip is too small, you tend to grip tighter, and also swing harder than you should.
i have a relative small hand, but i am used to larger grips. its all preference which takes your mind away.
and all that hand rotation thing... i am sure you be better at it within your comfort zone.

An over-sized grip will help prevent a hook because of less hand rotation. It also helps people that have arthritic hands because they don't have to close their hands as much as they would with a smaller diameter grip.

No, a bigger grip is just a preference thing. It wont effect your control or speed at all. Its just which ever grip feel right for you

No to both qns. you might feel that it adds more control but really it only adds fatigue to your hand.
