I've heard that layered hair on long hair makes thair look like its thinning out. which seems reasonably accurate. my hair is abt 3 ft. long and it is already thinning. what can i do to make layers look good for my hair?
or if layers isnt a good idea, what else can i do?

by that way, cutting my hair is not an option. my dad is freakishly sensitive about that. =\

you need to cut it, but not a whole lot. if there is a significant point where you really notice the thinning, that is where you should cut your hair. Just make sure you get regular trims like once a month and condition it, to keep it healthy and from thinning.

Its really hard to think of a style for really long hair without cutting it. If you want something drastic, dying it is an option. Go blonde, or really dark., or buy extensions that come in different colors, so you can switch it up whenever you feel like it

There is a way to (don't want to say layer because it's not near as much as layering) fringe the front sides to blend to the back without bangs and without taking any back length. You can have whomever is going to help you call me for the cutting technique on this.

This will allow you to pull up your hair and have "whispies" or it won't be so heave that you can take an iron to it for some wave. With this fringe, you could also wear it up messy in hundreds of different sassy ways! Good luck honey!

I'm reading that people say long hair is a cause of thinning. This is wrong. Vitamin B complex is the best thing...one a day. Thinning is genetic and if your hair is thinning before your time then it runs in your family. Everyone looses hair every single day so if that is the case it's very normal. You just notice it more because it's so long.

Try to stay away from color if you are going to keep it long. If you want to go with color then make it "temperary" and not permanent. No highlights!

Hey, I have relatives who are the same way (I'm guessing) as your dad is.

You might tell your freakishly sensitive daddy, that the reason your hair is thinning might very well be because it's so long and heavy. It weights down the scalp and thins the hair.

Layers are a good option! They will give you hair LIFE and Volume. But you have to cut it to get layers...

my thats a head of hair xp but it sounds pretty. you could get side bangs those are cute. if your hair is already thin getting a lot of layers wouldn't be a good idea because then it would make it look too thin. also if your hair is curly or really wavy then a lot of layers would make it curl more because there would be less hair to weigh it down. it all depends on your hair type I suppose. some layers could be cute with your hair but three feet of hair is a lot to deal with but you could tryy to find pictures online with that much hair and see what they've done with it to get ideas.

I know you don't want to cut your hair, but, if it's thinning out, you should. Growing it out even longer will only make your hair worse. Your hair is thinning out towards the bottom because that's the old hair. The old hair has experienced a lot of damage to it and it breaks off.

OR, you can trim the bottom of your hair, and perm your hair. Because your hair is so long, the curls will turn out VERY nice. That way, you can layer it before you perm it.

But, it really is your choice.

If you are going to keep the long hair than don't layer it, keep it all one length.

No one person is able to give you a good answer except to tell you that either wear it long or put it up and out of the way.

There are many ways to wear it up so try different things.

You did not mention if it is thick, curly, wavy, kinky or whatever. Nor did you mention your age.

Have fun with it. Wear it different ways and see what kind of response you get....

If you want to cut it in layers, be sure to cut in long layers, and not short. Side swept bangs would probably also look really great on you. For more volume in your hair i recommend washing and condition with "Sunsilk" Get the labeled for extra volume, it will give you more volume while making your hair soft and silky.....I really hope this helps!

You can put your hair up in a different style. You could also leave your hair down it all depends on which way you like your hair. I also think about that but the only way too find out which way you like your hair is just do different styles and your friends will kind of tell you which way they like your hair.

ahh yes i was in that boat once.. but the i did donate it.. my hair was 3 feet too.. it will thin the heavier it gets.. you can still have up to date hair styles with that long of hair.. and maybe curl it once in a while.. you can even get long curl perms but in.. that way it has a nice wave to it?.. i never did anything with mine but put it up all the time.. but if you search for hairstyles on yahoo or google.. im sure you'll find ways you can put it up ..without cutting it off..
