It sounds like Bipolar...but I am not a doctor. She needs to be seen by one. If she won't go willingly, contact your local mental health center and they can intervene. She won't be happy at first, but she will love you in the end. Right now she is mixed up and probably feels like everything is going 90 mph in her head.

Of course your wife needs to see a psychiatrist. Someone with her family history should know they need to monitor this sort of thing, and in her case a lot of the symptoms you list sound like classic bipolar or schizophrenic indicators.
I seriously doubt you are "in danger," based on what you related in your question (unless there's something you're not telling us). But you have to remember to try and be compassionate with her problem. Sometimes it's difficult to remember that the person isn't acting that way on purpose, they're doing it because they're sick.
If she refuses to see a psychiatrist, go to one yourself and ask them for professional advice on how to get her help. Laws vary from state to state on what can be done without her consent. If you think she can be persuaded on your own, try and explain to her that her seeing a shrink is just a precaution because of her family history, and that she will end up feeling better in the long run. Or, tell her this her chance to "prove you wrong," by going and finding out there's "nothing wrong with her". Just get her in there and let the professionals deal with the rest.

My mother used to do this and we finally had to sit down and talk to her about getting treatment. The spending is a hallmark of bipolor disorder and all of the insane mood shifts.....sounds bipolar to me. Do other members of her family know about this? If so you guys could come up with a plan for her to see a psychiatrist. You shouldn't accuse her of being anything, you should just say that things have gotten out of control and you fear for her safety and your own. You should also accompany her to the psychiatrists office. My dad did this for at least a year. She is now on the correct meds and she functions almost normally (whatever that means). I'm sorry you and she are going through this. It can be terrifying.

Yes, your wife does need see a psychiatrist. There are wonderful new medications that for most of people don't have side effects at all. She could have a completely normal life. And if she doesn't have health insurance and/or low income, she can look for a county or city mental health clinic.
You are not in danger, unless she is very violent or homicidal, or dangerous to herself if she is suicidal.
And for you there mental health support groups to help families and friends to cope. You can get all the information w/ Mental Health Association in your area. Good luck, and take care.

It could be hormonal. A lot of women I know are helping to level off their emotions with Wild Yam cream - particularly after they've had children - because it helps progesterone production, which is vital to hormonal health. If she won't speak to a doctor, it might be worth trying. Here's the product I used:

Many of us are using 2 tubes a month for the first 3-6 months or so and then level off to about 1 tube per month. Good Luck.
Peace!

Isn't it obvious something is wrong? I think seeing a doctor is a good first step. Are YOU in any danger? Anything is possible with mental instability but if she is your wife, you should know by now what she is capable of. You'd be the judge.

It sounds like she is like her family. Bi polar.
Make an appointment with your primary care doctor and see what you can do about getting your wife some help.
You might need to call the cops if and when she is in a rage.
That might get her some help.

well it sounds like it could be one of two things. either she is bipolor or she knows how to act like it to get what she wants. My cousin is bipolor and she goes on massive shopping sprees. her husband has to take all the credit cards away and hid them. I would take your wife to the doctors. Just make the appointment and take her it doesnt sound like she is going to go on her own.

Yeah, it's time to consult a psychiatrist. The thing that bothered me was the "blank stare". This is common in schizophrenia, and from the sounds of it, it could be. But she needs to get some lab work done before she is diagnosed.

You should totally have her seen by a psychiatrist. Or even see one by yourself at first to tell the psych your concerns. She definitely needs to get help. It isn't your fault that she needs the help. It's genetics. And she can't help herself. It won't get better only worse. If you don't get her the help she needs. She may end up hurting not only herself, but others as well.
