Well if you want to be a nuclear submarine officer.

Then trying to get accepted in the (NUPOC) program is the way to go.

Its actualy harder to go from enlisted to officer, than it is to become an officer fresh out of NROTC.

And if you join the (NUPOC) program, you will have to transfer to a school with NROTC anyway. if your school does not have a NROTC program.

Most officers in the usn has no any respect by any enlisted men. Enlisted men just pretty much make it seems like they respect them unless they are the CO and XO and ofcourse they will respect them. The chief's mess in the USN can run a ship without any officers. But right now is a bad time to go into the Navy. Right now there trying to kick out over 2,200 people out by the end of the year. You can get a degree in underwater basket weaving and the usn will take you and make you the Electro (Electrical officer) even though you no experience in electrical work. Now do you think a 21 year old that been a EM for the past 3 years is going to respect that 22 year old ensign straight out of bootcamp. The answer is no. The enlisted runs the navy the officers just get the credit for it. Back in the day there was a purpose for an officer. Enlisted men couldn't read or write. Today military is totally different there all High School grads or have a GED most of them are working on there diplomas at a local university wherever there station at. Just remember you have to earn respect because your an officer doesn't mean your automatically going to get respect.

An E to O might get a little more respect, but that depends on the individual. An O1-E gets paid more than an O-1. It depends on how long you want to take before becoming an officer.
